LIVE MONITORING

Live Video Monitoring for Downtown Duluth

Downtown Duluth does not have a camera problem. It has a nobody-is-watching problem.

Almost every building on Superior Street already has cameras. They record faithfully, into a hard drive nobody reviews, until something bad enough happens that someone finally goes looking — days later, when the damage is done, the tenant has given notice, and the customer has decided not to come back downtown.

We think that is backwards. A camera that records a crime is a consolation prize. A camera someone is actually watching is a deterrent.

What live monitoring actually is

During your agreed monitoring hours, a trained human operator watches your camera feeds in real time. When something happens, we respond in the moment:

Most of these situations end with an intercom announcement and someone simply moving along. That is the entire point. Nothing had to escalate.

What we are not

We are not a guard service. Our operators do not detain, pursue, restrain, or use force, and we do not sell a guarantee of safety — anyone who does is selling you something they cannot deliver.

We are a technology and observation service: attentive human eyes on your cameras, and immediate, appropriate escalation to the people whose job it is to respond. We think that honesty is worth more than a promise we could not keep.

Why this works when nothing else has

Duluth already has good people working this problem. The Clean & Safe Team walks the district every day, and their outreach specialist has gotten real people into real housing and real treatment. Police respond when there is something to respond to.

The missing piece has never been response. It has been eyes. A handful of outreach workers cannot be on every block at once, and they cannot respond to what nobody reports. Meanwhile hundreds of cameras downtown watch everything and tell no one.

Live monitoring closes that gap. Every monitored building becomes a set of eyes that can summon help in seconds — for the business whose doorway is blocked, for the tenant who feels unsafe, and frankly for the person sitting in that doorway who needs treatment and has nobody calling anyone on their behalf.

The corridor effect

One monitored building protects one building.

A monitored block changes the block. When several adjacent properties on Superior Street are watched during the same hours, behavior does not simply relocate next door — it stops, because next door is watched too. The deterrent stops being a property feature and becomes a street feature. That is when perception changes, and perception is what brings shoppers, tenants, and businesses back downtown.

If you own or occupy a building on Superior Street, ask us about corridor monitoring — coordinated coverage across neighboring properties, priced so that each participating building pays less than it would alone. Talk to your neighbors. This works better the more of you there are, which is the most honest sales pitch we know how to make.

Proven here first

Our own building — the historic Greysolon Plaza — was our first commercial client and remains our proving ground. We have delivered footage that supported Duluth Police investigations and helped document tens of thousands of dollars in property damage that would otherwise have been unrecoverable. Tenants tell us the cameras alone changed how safe the building feels.

We are not theorizing about downtown from an office park in another state. We walk to work through the same doorways you do.

Ask us for a walkthrough of what monitoring would actually look like at your property — including a pilot on a single entrance before you commit to anything.

Start smaller than you think

You do not need to monitor an entire building to find out whether this works. Most clients start with one entrance, during the hours that actually hurt — evenings, overnight, or whenever your staff and tenants tell you they feel least safe.

If it does not change anything, you have lost very little. If it changes what happens at your front door, you will know within a week — and so will everybody who walks past it.
