REGULATED COMPLIANCE

Cannabis Security & Surveillance Compliance in Minnesota

A cannabis license is the only kind of business permit in Minnesota where your camera system is a condition of staying open.

Most security vendors sell cannabis operators the same system they sell a gas station, with the word "compliant" added to the quote. Then the audit comes, or a drive fails at day sixty of a ninety-day retention obligation, and the operator discovers what they actually bought.

What Minnesota actually requires

Minnesota Rules Chapter 9810 sets security obligations that are unusually specific. In summary — and this is a summary, not legal advice — a licensed cannabis business must maintain:

Requirements differ by license type and continue to evolve. Verify your specific obligations with the Office of Cannabis Management and your own counsel — we build to your approved security plan, we do not write it for you.

The clause every operator should read twice

Minnesota's rules do not merely require a working security system. They contemplate what happens when it stops working — and the answer is severe. An alarm failure expected to exceed eight hours triggers mandatory notification to law enforcement and to the OCM. If no alternative security measure is in place, or the alternative fails, the business must not continue operating. Prolonged failures can shutter a licensee until repairs are finished.

Translate that into dollars. A retail cannabis operation doing meaningful daily revenue cannot absorb a multi-day closure because a recorder died and the vendor's support line routes to a queue in another time zone.

This is the whole argument for choosing a local, responsive, technically deep partner — not as a nicety, but as risk management. When your operating license depends on a system staying up, "we'll get someone out there next week" is not an acceptable answer, and a national vendor's SLA is a document, not a technician.

What we build

Cultivators, manufacturers, and transporters too

The obligations are not identical across license types, but they are substantial for all of them. Cultivation sites bring perimeter coverage, fencing, and vault considerations. Manufacturing brings process-area coverage. Transport brings its own documentation chain. Retail brings customer-facing, point-of-sale, and check-in coverage.

We start every engagement by walking the actual space with your license type and approved security plan in hand — not by quoting a camera count over the phone.

Why a security company, and not the low bidder

We are a BBB A+ accredited Minnesota security and technology firm. We build video management software ourselves, in-house — which means when your system needs to do something specific for a regulator, we can build it rather than explain why the manufacturer does not support it.

We have recovered deleted archive footage for a client after a competing vendor's license lapse destroyed it. We have delivered footage that supported law enforcement investigations. We have rebuilt systems installed wrong by companies that then quoted five figures to fix their own work.

In a regulated industry, the cheapest quote is the most expensive thing on the table.

Send us your floor plan and license type — we'll tell you what your security plan actually requires, what it costs, and what your current vendor is missing.
